A Quick Hike to Horseshoe Bend

Image
April 4th, 2017 Page, Arizona is surprisingly lush with natural wonders.  I was there specifically to see Antelope Canyon, but the more I looked into the area, the more I realized there was more to see around this sleepy little town. One of the places I found in the area was Horseshoe Bend.  Horseshoe Bend, along with Antelope Canyon, is one of those areas just made for Instagram bragging. Horseshoe Bend is a few miles away from the center of town.  It's the place where the Colorado River meanders into a bit of a cul de sac. Driving South on 89 from Page, the parking for Horseshoe Bend is on the right hand side of the road.  It had rained the night before, so a good chunk of the parking was underwater.  I arrived around 9a, pretty early in my mind, but not early for the rest of the tourists.  The parking lot was a bit crowded (since half of it was underwater), so that's something to keep in mind.   The signs around the Bend say ...

Indoor Girl Doing Outdoor Things - The Prequel

Why hello there.  Long time no see, huh?? That's the problem with the beginning of a new year.  The last trip of one year and the first trip of the next are waaaaaay too separated.  I blame work.  I just can't take time away during the first few months of the year.  Instead, I cocoon in my house, braving the cold only for intermittent trips to Target.  There, I spend hours each day creating an imprint of my body on my couch during various Netflix or Hulu binges.  Sometimes I bring my work home with me to actually get something accomplished during this season of sloth.  Sometimes, I don't.  Either way, the first few months of the year are spent hiding away from the world. And then one day, I emerge from the chrysalis of the winter.  The projects at work that needed to be done are (almost) done.  The weather begins to turn.  I see the light at the end of the tunnel.  And it's not a speeding train.  We're at the end ...

A Spanish Birthday Celebration - Drinking Our Way to Barcelona (Day 11)

September 9th, 2015 We were only staying in Sitges for one night.  And this was the time that the error of our trip really came into focus.  I may have mentioned this in the past (I have been working on this trip report for the last four months, so cut me a little bit of slack about remembering here), arriving in Sitges last night then leaving in the morning was not enough time to spend a ton of time in the city.  Or specifically, at the beach.  Adele was desperately wanting a beach day.  But we had to check out of the hotel at noon.  So we had to have breakfast, go to the beach, come back, shower, pack and check out.  All in a short amount of time. The morning began at breakfast.  And even if you don't want breakfast at your hotel, you're gonna want to partake in this one.  It was free with the stay and it was amazing.  What do you want for breakfast?? Omelettes??  Done.  Pastries??  Of course.  Pineapple?? ...

A Spanish Birthday Celebration - A Day in Sitges (Day 10)

September 8th, 2015 I'm not going to lie.  This day was filled with ridiculous moments.  It is the day I look back at with the most fondness.  If you equate fondness and silliness as the same thing. This was the first foreign trip we'd been on that solely utilized a car.  Well, a car we drove.  Though I guess in a way, that isn't entirely correct.  I mean, we rented a jeep on Easter Island , but that was only for a little while.  Plus, there wasn't a chance we could get too lost on an island.  But driving in Spain was different. I previously referenced a written, but unpublished post about our journey to Extebarri .  I still haven't decided if it ever needs to see the light of day.  There were frazzled nerves and short tempers.  Do I want to revisit those memories??  Not really.  The short version of the story was that driving in Spain was harder than we expected.  Sure, we expected to have a GPS that would a...

A Spanish Birthday Celebration - On the Road in Spain (Day 5.0)

September 3rd, 2015 We knew today was going to be an early day.  The thing we had been looking forward to/freaking out over was finally happening. We were going to drive in Spain. Ok, so one of us was excited. The other...completely freaked out.  You'll soon be able to figure out who belongs in which camp. But we had to get to this moment.  First, we had to deal with the day.  And the day began as they all do.  The alarm rang, but neither one of us had any interest in getting out of bed.  This is the normal morning for both of us. Last night, we had to spend some time repacking our luggage.  This is something we knew we would have to do eventually.  And as we went along on our journey, it would get harder and harder to do.  We hate this part.  This never gets better.   Our taxi was coming early.  Because we had a new hotel to ultimately get to.  Honestly, we could have lingered.  But for ma...
