A Spanish Birthday Celebration - Arrival Day (Day 2)

August 31st, 2015 Hello, Madrid!! Our first few moments in Madrid were not the greatest.  I mean, getting off the plane and through Customs was fine enough (though we did see a fight between two men, with the wife of one of the men yelling, "POLICIA!!  POLICIA!!" Which was pretty badass). But figuring out what was next was a little wonky.  Adele and I tag team on the trip details.  One person gets a room here, the other, there.  Adele got the room in Madrid, so she also set up a car service to get us to our hotel.  We could have taken the subway.  But if I've learned anything from International Travel, it's that navigating new city while not sleeping on a plane does not jive.  We get a car now.  It's easier for everyone involved. Our car wasn't waiting for us. As we exited the secure area of the airport, our eyes darted from one person to another, looking for the lucky person with the "Green" sign.  But no one was there.  We maneuve...

This is 40 - The Last Day in Maui (Day 6)

Tuesday, May 5th I have to go home today. I don't want to go home today.  I want to sit on the beach or by the pool again today.  Every day.  I want someone to bring me water and fruity drinks.  I want to not worry about work or paying bills or anything involving real life. But I didn't have to go home until later tonight.  Danielle was being picked up by the SpeediShuttle at 3p.  I was being picked up at 7p.  So no matter what we ended up doing, we had to be back to the hotel before 3p.  I still had enough time to do everything I hadn't yet done on Maui. We started the day lazily.  The alarm was set, but only half-assed.  Most of the packing was done last night.  So instead of jumping out of bed and attacking the day, we both just kind of hung out.  Having a five hour difference in the opposite direction works in a way.  Everyone we know has been up for hours now.  So it's better for texting and e-mails an...

Antiques and Amusements - A Canadian Wonderland: Day 4

Image
Sunday, September 1st It should always be a rule that Sunday is a day of sleeping in.  Even on a trip.  Though this is a rule that will hardly, if ever happen.  Except for today.  Thank god it happened today.  Not that we have been going full-on or anything.  But road trips tend to need (deserve, maybe??) a bit more rest in-between days.  Especially if you stay up late eating Foie Gras and Strawberries. So we were really leisurely this morning.  The biggest goal was to check out at 11a or so.  We knew we were off to the amusement park in the afternoon.  But the morning...it was up to us. I'd mentioned before that the hotel was fine enough, but it was insanely busy in the lobby area.  And getting an elevator.  We were on one of the lower floors within our elevator bank.  Which meant every elevator going down was packed to the gills with people from the floors above us.  And we were trying to get out of the hotel...
