This is 40 - Going Home (Day 6.5)

Image
Tuesday, May 5th The trip home is its own story.  Mostly because it's been almost two weeks since the flight and I'm still pretty angry about the whole thing.  Well, I'm not as angry as I was.  It has been almost two weeks.  I shouldn't still be angry at what happened.  My remnant anger is at the resolution...or lack thereof. I mentioned in a previous post that I had used miles to travel First Class to Hawaii.  I had saved them up for almost 15 years and had finally decided to use them for a purpose.  I don't normally fly First Class.  I mean, I travel a lot, but I try to go as inexpensively as I can because I travel a lot.  So First Class isn't in the budget.  This was a birthday trip that was created based on flying First Class to Hawaii. This is what I was leaving.  I didn't want to leave... Fast forward to my flight home. Well, fast forward to the start of this journey.  And this journey actually star...

Heading Home?? - The Graduation Adventure Day 15

Image
Thursday, June 5th I've stopped writing about the trip home.  Mostly because there are rarely stories attached to the trip.  You get up, get to the airport, wait for the plane, get home, blah, blah, blah.  But sometimes you have to write about the travel home.  Sometimes, things go weird enough that the story needs to be remembered.  Unfortunately, this was one of those times. Our flight home was 1215p.  We were ready.  After the big Disneyland day two days before, and yesterday's day of mostly rest (and awful weather), the knowledge that we were a few hours away from takeoff was comforting.  The bus came at 7a.  Then again at 9a.  Then various other times in the day.  But we didn't care about those times.  We were told to board a bus thee hours prior to our flight.  Our choice was four hours early or two hours early.  We figured, let's do early.  Less of a chance for racing.  The one thing we didn'...

Our Final French Adventure: Disney Studios - The Graduation Adventure Day 14

Image
Wednesday, June 4th It's raining this morning.  Which is kind of fitting for several reasons.  It has rained a lot while we were visiting Europe.  Mostly in the UK, but a little in France as well.  But we are worn out from yesterday.  Worn out hard.  The rain kind of works for us because it instantly makes us move slower (easy to do at this point) and it also gives us license to take it easy on the final day. I always knew this day would be the hardest.  Which is why we waited until the end of the trip to attack Disneyland Paris.  One day at a park is hard enough.  Combine that feeling with the culmination of 13 additional days of travel...I was guessing today is going to be very low-key.  And based what I'd heard about the Disney Studios Park, this is probably a fitting place to be. What I didn't expect was how hard the mighty would fall. Elias was adamant this morning about showering and getting ready like normal. ...

Why Being Nimble is Necessary in Traveling - Buenos Aires Day 1

Image
April 17th, 2014 No matter how much planning I do, I'm always only about 50% ready for the trip when the time comes.  You never know what you're going to end up seeing and doing and there really isn't a way to prepare for all of it.  Then again, there are some trips where I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. This is probably one of those trips. I've done some research, so I'm not going in cold.  But with the speed in which this trip was put together, I'm feel like I'm going in a bit blind.  I've hit the basics - TripAdvisor, Rough Guide Buenos Aires, but there is still a lot I know I'm missing.  I have been listening to Evita non-stop though, so...I'm sure I'm plenty prepared.  If being prepared means being able to sing "High Flying, Adored" at a moment's notice. The actual day of travel started easy enough.  Dad picked me up in plenty of time.  The drive to the airport was uneventful.  Meeting Adele at the termi...

The South American Adventure - Day 7!!

Day 7 - It's Kind of a Funny Story While traveling,  if you can't adapt, you won't make it long... We woke up early enough this morning.  And then came to the horrible realization.  The mountain kicked our asses mightily.  Turning over to one side took a Herculean effort.  Getting off the bed was excruciating.  And let's not even discuss how we looked/felt going down the stairs for breakfast.  Oy. But we had places to go and people to see.  Today, we hopped (painfully so) on a bus to Nazca.  Now I will freely admit, I had never heard of Nazca before Adele said we HAD to go.  I'm game for going places (obviously), so let's do this.  As for Nazca itself...more detail tomorrow.  If you want to go today, feel free to go to your public library...or Wikipedia. We had plenty of time before our bus to Nazca, which was good because we were walking like old folks after a hip replacement.  Our check out was 9a, but we stretched the limits a bit.  Packing is becomin...

Travel Adventure Friday!!

I didn't expect the day to take the twists and turns that it did. But there I was, quietly "working" away. And by "working" I was killing time before my breakfast meeting that was cancelled due to my hungover rep (well, it is Wine Week. *shudder*). Little did I know how the morning was going to change. #1 - 10a I checked my e-mail this morning and found an e-mail from Spirit Airlines. A flight was changed for our South American trip. No biggie. A changed flight. A few minutes here. A few minutes there. It's all good. Then I checked the change. Our flight didn't just change by a minute or two. Or an hour or two. Nope. Our flight changed by two days. TWO DAYS!! Unfortunately, our flight leaving two days early isn't suave, cause we'll be leaving Easter Island that day. It's not going to be physically possible to get from Easter Island to Lima in time (check a map...these places are far away from each other). After two con...
